Welcome to the twenty-second week of the Secret Wars! This week, at least in this post, the Battleworld is sharing the limelight with another special event: S.H.I.E.L.D’s 50th Anniversary, and the first comic appearance of a character created solely for the MCU: The Cavalry herself, Agent Melinda May! The story here is about her time training new agents. In comics, she seems no different from the show. There are references to the episode that showed her back story, as well as some very “Agent May” moments. The art captures her perfectly, her stoicism is portrayed well, as is her crazy ability to figure out the best way to win a fight. It’s a fantastic comic, and while I’m pretty sure there’s no chance of an issue 2, I’d love to read more from The Cavalry 😀
The Inferno storyline comes to an end after an impressive battle, many deaths, and a focus on Madeline Pryor (a clone of Jean Grey created by Mr. Sinister). Now, Maddie is a little off balance; that is to say she’s stark raving mad and full of anger. Illyana and Piotr finally have their battle, and after the winner wins (no spoilers here), Mad Maddie gets a boatload of power, which really can’t be a good thing!
The M.O.D.O.K. Assassin story, where M.O.D.O.K. is in love with Angela, comes to a conclusion as well, and begins with the revelation that Baron Mordo is behind Angela’s separation from her hammer, and all of the attempts to kill her. He wanted to do it to attract the attention of Doctor Strange, so that he could kill Strange and become the new Sheriff. The biggest question of the series; whether M.O.D.O.K. and Angela get together… Well, you guys will have to read it to find out. I, personally, loved the ending.
Now you know what I’ve been reading in this week’s comics, tell me what you’ve been reading, and which comics you love!
