The best episode of Fear the Walking Dead yet. Not only that FTWD fans, but I actually didn’t hate this one. Yes, there were several moments of me yelling at the TV (Why in the hell are you idiots leaving the damned door open!?!?), but overall this was a good episode. Finally.
I’ve said this before, but one of the main irritations to me in this show is that fact that we as viewers know how all this is going to end up, and after five years of TWD we all know how Walkers should be dealt with and what preventative measures should be taken, so when we see these characters NOT doing that, we think them idiots. Which of course isn’t really fair because they don’t know what we know, but it’s not like we can just turn off all that prior knowledge in our brains and give them that benefit of the doubt.
Having said all that, it’s cool to see Madison start to become what she needs to be in the world that things are about to become. Alicia is still pretty useless, wandering about managing to get herself into trouble. Daniel meanwhile is pretty much there already, and proved that when he got his first zombie kill shortly after arriving at the Clark household.
Speaking of the Salazar family, I found it entertaining to see the dynamics of their family. Daniel, as I said earlier, seems more ready than most to deal with the New Walker Order even if he can be a bit stubborn and unrealistic (what was he gonna do, dial 1-800-DOCTORS and get someone to look at Griselda’s leg delivered to the door). Ofelia on the other hand seems to understand that there’s safety in numbers.
Now with the road trip cut short due to military intervention, the first such action we’ve had a chance to see in this universe, I’m curious about how things will go from this to what we already know things become. Then again, who’s to say that things get as bad on the West Coast as they did down South? At the least I’m getting interested in this show for real this time, and with three episodes remaining I’m hoping that this upward trend continues.
How about you all? You still in? Let me know int the comments, and I’ll see you next week for “Not Fade Away!”
