Let me say up-front that I’m much more familiar with the Marvel universe than the DC one, so there may be a lot to Convergence that I missed out on.
Convergence is a tale about cities being taken from various Earths, and their powered people being ordered to fight each other for dominance.
Of course, it’s never quite as simple as that.
While the battles rage, they’re no more than side issues to the main story, which is a three way battle between a Telos, Deimos, and a group of heroes.
Telos is a creature of Brainiac‘s, and he’s brought all the cities together to this battle. Deimos wants Telos‘ power so that he could challenge Brainiac. The others just want to go home.
The problem is, as the battle rages, the world on which it all happens starts to break into the Earth 0 universe, and that would mean the end of the world.
Or, in the comic universes, Tuesday 😛
Yes, the end of the world is always just around the corner, but that’s part of the fun!
The ending of the story replaces a destroyed Earth, restores all the cities, and looks to tie everything up in a neat bow.
The thing is, I don’t buy it. There’s something about the story that reads as a huge set-up for a war to come. I’ll be watching carefully, and reading back as much as I can, to see if I can shed more light on it.
But, before I go, I have to mention the two issue Harley Quinn tie in. I’ve been reading the New 52’s Harley Quinn series, and they have been truly fantastic. In Convergence, Harley Quinn has to take on Captain Carrot, and this leads to two issues of hilarity! If you read any of the side stories from this event, this is the one to read.
Now this is where I need the DC fans to chime in: What did I miss? What secrets and Easter Eggs were buried in the story? Educate me, Geeks!
