Update (5/30/15): Told y’all. Xbox Division Head Phil Spencer officially denied this rumor on Twitter earlier today.
Seriously, how in the hell did so many people believe this? Original article below.
Stop it, internet. Stop it right now. Yeah, we know it sucks that Silent Hills was canceled. It would have been awesome to see a horror game in this series directed by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro. It would have been fantastic to control Norman Reedus’ character as we braved the twisted world those two would have come up with. I would have loved it.
However, the rumor going around today that Microsoft is purchasing the game from Konami to have as a Xbox One exclusive for “billions of dollars” is absolutely absurd. Hell, they paid $2.5 billion to purchase Mojang, the developers of hit game Minecraft, just last year; do you really think that they’d do the same for a single game in a franchise that they don’t even own?
Also, if the game was 80% finished, Konami flat out would not have canceled it. They’d finish it and release it. That’s just common sense; they wouldn’t let something that far along and cost them that much money just die without getting a return on that investment.
Look, I really do get it. This could have been an incredible comeback for the Silent Hill series, and people are deeply disappointed that it’s not going to happen. I know I am. That doesn’t mean that we should cling to very obviously bullshit rumors, holding a forlorn hope that this will come to pass. Mark my words: You will hear nothing whatsoever about this come E3 this year because it just ain’t gonna happen. Silent Hills is dead, people. Mourn its loss, and move on.
It’s time the X-Men came out to play!
Of the various Secret Wars tales that came out this week, I’m going to focus on Inferno and Old Man Logan. These are the first real X-Men related tales from the Battleworld, and they’re both excellent.
First, let’s talk about Old Man Logan.
As you can guess from the title, this marks the return of Wolverine, who was killed recently after he lost his healing factor. Well, now he’s back, and he somehow has fifty years of memories in the Battleword’s wastelands, where he was duped into killing all of his fellow X-Men, lost his family to The Hulk, and now, after massacring The Hulk family, he’s raising their sole surviving baby as his own.
And now he wants to set the world right.
The artwork is beautiful for this comic. It’s gritty, bloody, and shows a wasteland that truly fits the name. Logan himself now has all white hair, and he heals again. He appears with purpose, and at peace with it. Emma Frost also makes an appearance, as does someone who appears to be Luke Cage’s daughter.
I won’t spoil too much of this one, because any fan of Wolverine will love it!
Secondly, we have Inferno.
Set in Manhattan, but four years after a band of demons have turned it into a little slice of hell away from hell, this story focuses on an annual pilgrimage by Colossus where he tries to rescue his sister, Magik, from a demon controlled Empire State Building.
The biggest problem is that Magik has been taken over by Darkchild, her demon form, and is the ruler of Inferno.
After the previous year’s battle with Darkchild, Colossus has lost the use of his right arm, and Scott Summers is in Professor X‘s wheelchair, and decides that this is the last time he will allow Colossus to go after his sister.
For the rest, I recommend reading the comic. It’s action packed!
Fans of the X-Men will also want to check out the appearance of a different Wolverine in Secret Wars Journal.
Going back to Old Man Logan, I’m hoping this is the version of Wolverine to return when the Secret Wars end, but what do you think? How would you like to see him come back?
So yesterday I stumbled upon an officially released pilot of a new USA Network show that was not to premier until July called Mr. Robot. I had honestly never seen a lick of media on it, but its a USA show, so I figured I’d check it out. Then I hit play, saw it was almost exactly an hour (no room for commercials) and relented. I backed up and checked out a preview first. I fell in love immediately and had no further qualms about how to spend the next hour. This may be my favorite USA show ever. Better than White Collar, better than Suits, better than Burn Notice.
Here’s the breakdown: Elliot, played by Rami Malek from the Night at the Museum film series, is a vigilante hacker. He hates society, but protects people. Idiots aren’t worth his time and he does not talk if he can avoid it. Touching another individual freaks him out.
Oh, and he’s possibly (probably) absolutely freakin’ nuts! The entire show might be completely in his head.. Though probably not.
Some of his delusions include men in black following him along with a homeless dude who does not seem to be working with them and.. well.. watch the episode and see. =)
This is not a lighthearted show. There are no jokes told, even to lighten the mood. This is a serious drama aimed at the highly intelligent who have either experienced, or have just seen in others, extreme social anxiety.
So enough talk, watch the episode here!
Oh, I didn’t mention Christian Slater? Yeah, in a serious role and he kills it! Mr. Robot will premiere on USA for its ten-episode season on June 24, 2015.
What did you think of the pilot? Will you be watching the rest of the season? Let us know in the comments!
As we ramp up to the launch of Batman: Arkham Knight less than a month away, we’re seeing more and more from it. Today Rocksteady Studios released a full on seven minutes of gameplay, directly from the PlayStation 4 version of the game, which we’ve provided for your viewing pleasure below.
Batman: Arkham Knight will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on June 23rd, 2015. Are you looking forward to it as much as we are? Let us know in the comments!
Another month, another PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection lineup! Let’s see what’s on tap.
This month’s collection is headlined by Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes for the PS4, a game which I refused to buy when it came out as I considered it to be little more than a glorified demo for The Phantom Pain, but since it’s here looks like I’ll finally give it a go.
Past that, I honestly can’t see myself spending much time with anything else offered this month. Call of Juarez: Gunslinger for the PS3 look fairly decent and there’s a chance that Skulls of the Shogun might entertain me, but are either of those really going to take my attention away from The Witcher 3? Yeah, I don’t think so. Here’s the full list:
- Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (PS4)
- Skulls of the Shogun: Bone-A-Fide Edition (PS4)
- Super Exploding Zoo (PS Vita/PS4)
- Futuridium EP Deluxe (PS Vita/PS4)
- Call of Juarez: Gunslinger (PS3)
- Cloudberry Kingdom (PS3)
Still, the addition of MGS should make those who’ve been whining about AAA titles shut up for at least another month until they start whining yet again, and that in and of itself is a good thing. 😉
These titles will be available to download when the PlayStation Store updates on June 2nd. Anything here catching your eye? Let us know in the comments!
